NYC Accessible Transportation Training Study – Consent and Payment Information

Please read the following and complete the form at the bottom of this page.

Online Consent to Participate in a Research Study

You are being asked to participate in this research study because you are over the age of 18, live in New York City, and have reported difficulty with transportation and because you meet other demographic criteria to participate.

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to test the effect of a transportation training and resource guide. Mobility behavior and survey responses will be compared before and after the training, and several months after the training. The goal is to see if there are changes in travel behaviors, awareness of information and resources, or attitudes about transportation because of the training.

Procedures

If you agree to participate, we will ask you to:

  • Take a preliminary 15-minute online survey.
  • Complete an online training course that consists of 4 topic areas:
    • accessible transportation options;
    • navigation tips;
    • financial supports for transportation;
    • disability rights and transportation.
  • Complete a 5-10 minute online survey after completing the online training course.
  • Complete an additional 15-minute survey several months later.

Time Commitment

Participation in this research study is expected to take 2 – 3 hours total over the course of three months (35-45 minutes for surveys and 60-90 minutes for the online training course).

Potential Risks or Discomforts

There are very few potential risks or discomfort associated with this study. Privacy concerns are a related research risk, which is why an email address or phone number is the only form of personally identifiable information associated with your survey answers. For help with any technical challenges, you can contact the Principal Investigator by email, [email protected], or by text or phone, 214-454-6298.

Potential Benefits

The research may improve travel survey methods. Data collected may contribute to knowledge about missing supports and inequalities in transportation and may be used for advocacy purposes in the future. Your input on the training will help develop informational resources to help other people with disabilities use public transportation in New York City.

Payment for Participation

You will be compensated $65 total for your participation in all phases of the study described above under the “Procedures” and “Time Commitment” sections. You will receive $40 for completing the initial survey and the online training and $10 for the follow-up survey administered after the training is complete (up to $50 sent as one payment). You will receive $15 for completing a final survey approximately 2 months after the online training. Payments will be made by PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, or by Amazon Gift Card. After reviewing your consent to participate in the study, you will be asked to submit the form below with your full name, mailing address to verify your place of residence, and payment account information. This information will not be stored with your location data or survey responses and will be used only for providing payments.
